Second Call for Papers

ESIA12

12th International Conference on Engineering Structural Integrity Assessment

28 and 29 May 2013, Manchester, UK

Downloads:

The twelfth biennial†International Conference on Engineering Structural Integrity Assessment†will be held at the Manchester Conference Centre in Manchester, in the centre of one of the most technologically historic and exciting cities in the United Kingdom, which has one of the largest universities as well as two of the foremost football teams in Europe.

This prestigious and long running conference will bring together delegates from around the world to discuss how to characterise, predict and analyse the Engineering Structural Integrity (ESI) of plant, components and structures together with buildings and the infrastructure. ESI is the science and practice of increasing engineering reliability and safety.

THEME

We would like to have an emphasis on `Where We Are Today?', considering the developments in ESI to date and its future requirements.

On Day 1, the current position will be addressed by keynote speakers from areas such as: manufacturing, regulation, technology support, expert witness and overseas development.

On Day 2, new challenges and developments will be addressed by keynote speakers from areas such as: bio-systems, materials modelling, through-life monitoring, technology transfer, transport challenges and developments overseas.

These topics relate to the assurance of structural integrity in relation to Safety Cases and operational reliability across industry. Oral and poster presentations will allow sufficient time for follow-up discussions, friendly debate and relaxed participation.

PAPERS and POSTERS

We invite papers and posters from industry, regulators, academia, technology support and supply chain organisations relating to:

  • Power Generation
  • Renewable Energy
  • Defence systems
  • Aerospace
  • Transport (Rail, Automotive)
  • Process Plant
  • Oil and Gas
  • Civil Structures
  • Medical and Biological Devices and Structures.

Hence this will embrace topics, such as:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Fatigue - corrosion fatigue
  • Creep and creep fatigue
  • Modelling of engineering materials
  • Fracture including quasi-brittle materials
  • Tribology
  • Monitoring devices and techniques
  • Inspection, including integrity-linked inspection
  • Design challenges

KEYNOTE PAPERS

A series of keynote papers have been invited. The possible presenters will include:

Prof Rod Smith, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Ministry of Transport
Prof Steve Garwood, Rolls-Royce
Prof Ferri Aliabadi, Imperial College London
Prof Laurence Williams, UCLAN
Prof Su Jun Wu, Beihang University
Dr Chistoph Wiesner, TWI
Prof David Ewins, University of Bristol
Prof Rob Ritchie, University of California
Prof Shang-Tung Tu, East China University
Prof Mike FitzPatrick, the Open University

YOUNG PRESENTERS Award

The Conference Organisers are keen for post-graduates and early career workers to submit papers or posters. They will award a prize for the best paper and presentation, and for the best poster. These prizes are awarded in honour of the late Professor Keith Miller FREng, whose work in the area of Engineering Structural Integrity is world-renowned.

CALL FOR PAPERS

  1. Abstracts (up to 300 words) should indicate the theme and topic area to which it is appropriate and contain the presentation title, the author's name(s) and affiliation(s), five key words, an illustration and table, and the full contact details of the corresponding author.
  2. The conference language is English.
  3. Papers are accepted on the understanding that an author will present the paper at the Conference in English.

DATES TO NOTE

  1. Abstracts must be submitted - 1 December 2012
  2. Authors will be notified of acceptance - 1 January 2013 (with guidelines)
  3. Submission of Full Paper for review (paper template may be downloaded from the FESI website at www.fesi.org.uk) - 1 March 2013.
All papers received at that date will be included in the conference proceedings of ESIA12.

EXHIBITION AND POSTER DISPLAY

The delegates will be keen to see new and innovative equipment, software and research that could assist them in their work situation. Use this opportunity to exhibit and demonstrate your latest products and developments. Posters may be used to communicate recent research in both industry and academia. Please let the Conference Organising Committee know if you intend to submit a poster by 1 February 2013.

SPONSORSHIP

Put your company or organisation's name in front of the delegates by sponsoring a Conference Event:

  • The main Conference itself,
  • Conference Reception,
  • Conference Dinner, Speaker - President of ESIS
  • Delegate packs,
